There is an estimated 80,700 indigenous people groups living in Japan, including the Toku-no-shima, Yaeyama, and Yoron peoples, that comprises more than 150 islands in the East China Sea. Our group will work diligently to unify and train local leaders, representing many different organizations, on how to work together to deliver essential services and immediate needs to poor single parents, their children, and the elderly who are hidden and hurting in Japan. Our findings suggest Japan is facing an economic and social crisis like never seen before, including 3.5 million children living in poverty, increased divorce, abandonment, domestic violence, child abuse or neglect, brought on by a predominant male work culture of long hours and rigid promotional hierarchies where over-work deaths, called Karōshi, are increasing in number.
